Firstly, Kristen Stewart is an amazing actress and delivers a subtle and layered performance. It’s great to see her pushing her boundaries, and it really displays her strong work ethic in trying to reclaim her artistic image post-Twilight, though I’m sure she brings many ardent fans along with her.

Pairing up with Olivier Assayas again has resulted in a daring and phenomenal film off the back of their last venture, The Clouds of Sils Maria, another fantastic film. Assayas dives head-first into the horror genre and aims to subvert it effortlessly. Early in the film, we find out that Maureen (Stewart) suffers from a heart malformation, and that she could drop dead of a heart attack at any time. The first five minutes feel like a normal, boring ghost horror movie about a woman alone in an old dark house away from civilisation as she attempts to converse with a ghost. So yes the first five minutes are boring, I am glad they got all the boring out in the beginning because after the first scene it is anything but.
